SHIFT is a wild ride through the world of online gaming, the distraction economy, and the monetisation of virtual spaces. It explores what happens when we exist in multiple worlds simultaneously, shifting between dysfunctional reality and surreal spaces where dreams can come true. In these liberated lands, players explore a menu of diverse experiences and role play situations, building dream homes and gardens, trying out new adventures and identities, and escaping limits of mortality and morality.
This verbatim production uses real life interviews, and found text to explore the liminal space between worlds where the self is fragmented and agency is renegotiated. A rational escape from an uncertain world, or a dangerous game of pretend?
