Welcome to the thirteenth century’s answer to Succession. Welcome to the Secrets of Southchurch Hall.
Meet the de Southchurch family. They’re like any other ordinary family from the thirteenth century. Just the usual political intrigue, royal plots, extortion, fraud and religious fanaticism.
There’s Joan, the formidable Lady of the Manor, left in charge of Southchurch Hall after the death of her husband, and keeping watch over her family’s dramas like a hawk. There’s her son, Richard, a con artist and sometime High Sheriff of Essex – just don’t be a sucker for his “incendiary birds” battle plans. And then there’s Richard’s grandson, Henry, who joins the mysterious monks in Prittlewell Priory down the road. If you think he gives his family a quiet life… think again.
Directed by Nigel Munson (Co-Founder of 6FootStories and Dank Parish) “Secrets of Southchurch Hall” is a brand- new site-specific production inspired by the history of one of Southend’s most enigmatic locations, Southchurch Hall.
