Welcome to the Clifftown Theatre & Studios website. Built in 1865 with its magnificent gothic bell tower and stunning fascia, Clifftown United Reformed Church has been one of the finest sites in Southend for over a century. Purchased in 2008, it was transformed into a stunning state-of-the-art Theatre and performance space and awarded the Southend Society's 'Clifftown Award' for 2010. With 5 rehearsal studios and a dynamic theatre space, Clifftown Theatre & Studios has given rise to a diverse range of shows, workshops, summer schools, community events and professional touring productions, and is home to the world renowned East 15 Acting School.


Our Spring Season is underway and what treats we have in store! LACUNA THEATRE come to play with their new comic and highly engaging show and CAPATARO perform their newly devised 5* production. There's lots to come, with productions to satisfy all persuasions, including Nick Dear's adaptation of Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN Directed by the inimitable Gary Sefton (Gormengast; The Huncback of Notre Dame; Rhinoceros) and a visual spectacle in the form of ZORRO - ON BOARD Directed by the esteemed Nicholas Hall (Blue Whistlers). This is the unlikely story of an unlucky man, Leonard Langley. Leonard has a problem. A problem the doctors can't fix. Now bound aboard a prison ship and his problem getting worse by the day, time is running out for unlucky Leonard. Now enter the Storyteller, charged with telling the tale Leonard is too terrified to tell himself.

Combining comedy, Butoh dance and an original soundtrack with lyrical prose and sensitive storytelling, this production tells the tale of one man's battle with his own body in a highly physical and engaging three person production.​​

Glaucoma tells the story of three young girls with dreams of revolution.
After being detained for publicly protesting against a world of corruption and destruction, they meet an array of strange characters from the systems and legislations they oppose and fight to hold on to their firm beliefs, identities and humanity in their surreal, minimalist prison.

The production is devised and written by CapaTaro, an award winning company of female performer/musicians from East 15’s World Performance course. Through producing inter-cultural, original and visceral work, this new company strives to challenge passiveness and engineer change for their generation.
